Marathon Finishes at West Post
West Post finishes master for Digital theatrical distribution of Spirit of the Marathon
Santa Monica February 2008 –
West Post Digital have announced details of how they
assisted Director/Producer Jon Dunham in finishing his Spirit of the Marathon movie project
at their Santa Monica facility.
Kenny Fields Partner in West Post comments, “This was a very cool project for West Post
to work with and represents the way the Production and Post Production businesses have
changed in the past 5 years.”
Dunham shot everything digitally; starting on HDV and adding other digital HD formats as
required as production progressed. All the initial cuts and early post were done in FCP and
the files then came into West Post for finishing work on some scenes that required
additional color correction in the facility’s da Vinci suite. The finished project was
eventually distributed digitally to 500 theatres nationwide via satellite.
Jon Dunham Spirit of the Marathon Director/Producer adds “West Post has been great to
work with and was totally happy to take our FCP files and work with them which really
helped us. I wouldn’t have any hesitation working with them again on a future project. I
started shooting Spirit of the Marathon with a low cost HDV camcorder and eventually the
finished movie was distributed via satellite by National Cine Media. No part of the movie
has ever been transferred to film--no film out, no prints at all.”
The first release for a single night in January grossed $600k. On February 21st Spirit of the
Marathon will be distributed digitally again to around 500 more theatres. For more
